Projects generally fail when they are not formed from proper process mapping
Mapping your processes in detail provides insight into the smallest of change that takes 10 minutes to make, but still adds value, to larger needs that require planning and managing - Lots of small 'value adds' soon mount up!
Cost and time tolerances can be exceeded, causing a project to fail and as projects progress the review stages may highlight plans not being met or out of scope
Detailed process mapping reduces the risk of projects failing as there will be less discovery during the actual project stages. More 'what if's' are captured during the mapping process.
This is a common question (and often a blocker to making change).
Scale is generally the key - If you can manage the change within your team or department and it doesn't need funding, just some support with people's time - then go ahead and make the change. However, there are a lot of risks here!
If the joined up processes have not been mapped, the smallest change in one place can significantly impact another process & the impact will amplify.
If a defined change needs senior management support, then a structured project is needed. Projects DO NOT need to be large and complex, they just need to be properly managed to ensure success!
No business is identical, so the key difference is we WON'T tell you what changes to make!
Delivery through others is at the heart of Improved Processes - We love working with the people doing the actual tasks to unlock their knowledge, frustrations and empower them to share ideas to make real change.
